Public Education

One of the network’s core functions is Public Education. Staff carry this out in a variety of ways.

We welcome invitations to come and visit service groups, associations and other organizations to talk about lifelong learning opportunities in the area.

All services listed below are available to any agency for a nominal fee. *Members receive these for either free or at a reduced rate.

CLEAR LANGUAGE CONSULTATIONS

Agencies, employers and other organizations can submit printed materials to undergo a clear language consultation. Experienced staff review the publications and make recommendations that will ensure the material is easy to understand by people of all reading levels.

Fliers, pamphlets, posters, brochures, newsletters, reports and other documents are eligible for consultations. Recommendations will be based on language, layout and design. Existing and draft documents are welcome. QUILL does not design original print materials.

The turn-around time is usually 7-10 business days, depending on the size of the document. The fee is $25/hour for non-members and $20 an hour for members.

CLEAR LANGUAGE WORKSHOPS

QUILL staff deliver clear language workshops designed to provide agency staff and other individuals the tools needed to design materials that follow the principals of clear language. The workshop addresses issues of font, language, layout and design. Workshops can be personalized, and vary from 1 to 3 hours, depending on need. Fees will be negotiated based on length of workshop and travel requirements.

LITERACY AWARENESS SESSIONS

Agencies and businesses interested in learning more about QUILL Learning Network and Literacy and Basic Skills supports and services in the region benefit from a Literacy Awareness Session. This is a free session that includes an overview of literacy statistics and information, identifying, approaching and referring clients with literacy challenges, and supports and services available locally. The session lasts 60-90 minutes and can be tailored to meet specific organizational needs. Literacy Awareness Sessions need to be booked at least two weeks in advance.
